Ok, I might have helped that along…a whole ton. The Bike – now deserving of its own capital letters – was on the set of the movie “Tree of Life”…and we got our hands on it via our lovely host Lori, in Texas. Apparently a certain actor rode it to “work” each day. Hearing that…. I, of course, had to sit on it. And…well..the rest you will have to read on faceobook.

As for the pics, this gorgeous family retro’d it up for us at the workshop in Texas.
Together we dreamed up a shoot that took us far into the country in search of rice fields, and back again. A special thanks to Alex for your super assistance. I would have fallen in that rice paddy for sure!

I am far behind, however I couldn’t resist this one pic. A sneek peak – thank you so much Cicilia, I can’t wait to get all the galleries out to your family.
This year has been an amazing year : I hope to find time to get more out up on the blog (I must I must).
Now to sleep and then back to working getting orders out xoxox.
I guess because its not something that I normally would take. Or see. Or even feel. Infact, Im sure all the wedding photographers out there are saying “whatever”. But…aside from the fact that this girl is stunning.. (and I hope your mum shows you this because you are!), there is something else in it. As a photographer, it was nice to stumble across this frame purely because it reminds me to never get stuck on the “same old”. To push myself creatively and be inspired…always.

It makes me think…what inspires me?
Where can I grow?
What am not seeing?

Dear Photographers : I hope you will join in and share with us a photograph that you took in 2011, that is something unusual, almost “not you”, that you feel has maybe made you grow…or even made you “think”. Maybe even in your eyes your most creative photograph for 2011! A growing point. And discuss with us what it is about the photograph that has stretched you. I know a hard one. I would love you to share it even on my jinkyart facie page….https://www.facebook.com/JinkyArt. Even if your NEW to photography, don’t be shy!

Inspire us!

As there was lots of boy fun to be had. This was just the very end. (Texas workshop shoot).

So………………………

Q. Christie Hedges : I would like to know, how to come up with suitable pricing for portrat and wedding packages/photography…?
Ahh pricing. Well, there are many ways and in fact this is a topic that needs more then a few sentences to answer unfortunately. My best ‘quick’ advise is to not under sell yourself. Your worth it.

Q. Heather Vernon : How do you find good locations? Do you go and scout all around where you live (for home shoots)? What’s your method, so-to-speak. I just love all your locations you choose, and I find it so hard to find unique, unused locations.
I am fortunate enough to travel a fair bit however, that being said, a lot of shoots are just done in front of trees or bushes. Yes, sometimes, they are done in amazing lakes for example – however thats not often. Usually its just more a play with light, like in the above photograph for example. Nowhere to special…just a patch of grass with some trees behind. So with that in mind, my ideal locations are areas with long grass and some trees. A mix of both is always my preference. I do scout, yes! =) But like I said, I know I am very very fortunate.

Q .Natalie Mancino Hathaway: I would like to know about the recipe you are using on your newest work in post-production. Its got this milky-look that I’m loving, but sharp at the same time and the colors are not pastel…but have that milk glass feel….yummo! Love it. (boat with pink sail/fam on lake and pink tub image, and goats…even the boy standing on the boat). Dish a little please and thank you
Your likely going to kill me for saying this because I get asked this a lot, and the truth of the matter is….I actually use my actions (http://www.ittybittyactions.com) – The boy on the boat that you mention from the facebook page, I used Austin from the Delightful Set with a mix of retouching (desaturation etc). Im very fond of the LoveV2 action (Delightful)..However that being said, I do fiddle prior and after …so I prepare the photograph for the results of the actions and then retouch after. I think the milk glass feel you are mentioning is just decontrast using levels. Maybe?! The fiddling that I do is not constrained to every photograph and I guess its that fiddling that is just as important.

Q.Christi Mulkey : What kind of things do you do to prepare your clients for a smooth, natural flow to your shoots. How do you get them to relax and interact naturally with their kids or each other!?? How can we draw out the free spirit in people!!??? Thx!
You know, a lot of time I think thats just clever selection of photographs…I really do. I also think its just reflecting what you want from people..in a way thats to draw it out in them (act happy to get happy, sad to get sad). Kids are easy in that way because they just “are”. They really have no fake..it is what it is and whatever emotion they are wearing that day is the emotion that I capture. I think also its a willingness on the subjects behalf to WANT to have their photograph taken and are willing to put effort into getting loving results. Its a team effort thats for sure. I am very fortunate in having the clients that I do have. However, I think Im fairly honest and will say when things arent working..or will change it up.

Q.What is the song called that is playing for your movie on your website?

Its the very fabulous Paper Kites.

Q. Dawn Anderson Roberts : How much do you miss me?
More than words =) xoxoxoxoxo

Q. Elizabeth Hawthorne : Do you ever have shoots that aren’t themed? Do you just not post them? How do you encourage clients to go with a theme for their shoot?
Yes, I do actually however its clients who decide and usually they decide on something creative and dream big. However not always. I do whatever it is that is asked of me. It is a collaboration. Often I will interject with ideas however its usually sparked by something that a client has said or done. oxxo.

Q. Chrissy Torney : Barb, i have always wanted to know how you schedule your babies and small clients into late afternoon ore sunset sessions. Sun sets in Melb around 9pm during summer and I find there are limitations with this. Mornings are out with my own family commitments – live to hear how you deal with this..
Im assuming your after backlite golden photographs only? If thats the case then I would be changing those family commitments However, yes 9pm is too late. I would seek morning or offer a different style for the younger ones, only to be realistic on the littlies.

Q : Mariah Nichole Woodring : What is your absolute best advice for a newbie?
Oh, to be you. I love that stage. Just enjoy. Do what your heart longs to do and ignore all the tends. Who knows, you could be the next big trend! =)

Ok sorry thats all I can do for now..must go do the after school run! =) xoxo.
