As I turn a new corner, I am reminded again, of the importance of capturing my family – us, in our day to day. For real. For the love of it, and for keepsake.

Happy Saturday! BTW, you will start to see some changes as we move things round and prep for the new site.. Did I mention (again?) we have a new site coming?

We have a new website coming soon. Just over the horizon. The coders are working as we speak.

As for the pic, its one of my favourites of my daughter, Talia.
Taken around 4 years ago, in Mount Tamborine, Australia.

She is a breathe of fresh air, a kind soul, a true inspiration and my very first muse.
I feel lucky to be around her every single day.

A while back I posted another photograph from this same shoot. It was taken outside Monte Saint Michel in France.

The boat was made by my very wonderful husband, and the wee lad is Monty. The son of some really close friends of ours who travelled with us through Europe last year. Of course, Monty, belonged in front of Monte Saint Michel, it was a match made in heaven and one that this photographer could not resist.

Amazing memories.

Months ago, when I first posted another frame and edit of this from the same shoot, I read some things on a photography forum that made me doubt myself and I pulled it. Everyone lacks confidence sometimes. Then, I had a hard drive crash (lost a lot of France photographs) and the wonderful feeling I got from photographing Monty here was gone. Mostly because, I read, that the whole scene was fake (which …it isnt) and that its all a composite done badly. (Which…it may be done badly, but it is not a done badly composite since it is NOT a composite). And that I have no talent and “whats all the fuss about”. So, I pulled the photo and here I am writing this post today.

Since I was just fresh home and experimenting with photoshop once again, I obviously over thought it..and I decided to wait to see if I could get back some more of the files off the failed hard drive. And…heres 2 that came back.

Ive read some nasty stuff written about other photographers too, it’s a funny industry. But mostly I get that I need thicker skin.

I get there are bigger issues, bigger problems. But I just felt like chatting about this. So if you have ever felt this way you are not alone. Confidence. There’s that word.

There is no “right way”. There isnt. Of photoshop. Of photography. Of art.

There is a right way to treat people however, isn’t there? And if this isnt the right way to voice it, please accept my apologies. Im not perfect!

So, after a recent event that in a tiny way reminded me of this here shoot…. I decided to repost.

This kind of thing happens in every industry, at every age, in every corner of the world. Its not a big deal. I get that, but this is me taking a small cyber stand and saying “Hey, mean people suck!”. But mostly as a reminder to myself, and others, to just create. That it doesn’t matter. If it comes from the heart..then there is nothing purer.

And it did. I love this little man, and his family. So, heres Monty in front of this amazing place in France.

Monty, thanks for the memories! =)

(Oh and if you are not a photographer and wondering what a composite is, its the joining of photographs to make a single photograph. So for example, a composite of this could be to photograph the Castle and the boy separately, or the boat. And then join them in photoshop. This is often a technique used in Fine Art photography or for safety of the baby in Baby photography).

These were taken during our stay in West Sussex, England. And, I HAVE to tell you the story behind them.

My girls.

Talia and Penny were exploring the gardens of an old Estate that we were staying at, and happened upon an old arrow made of wood, and a feather. I kid you not. It was so Robin Hood, that soon enough, the pair dreamed up a photo shoot of their own. Talia and Penny meets Robin Hood. I, of course, played along and quickly went out to vintage stores to find them gear to wear, and a bow.

Of course, we tried to send the arrow home, however I guess it didnt make it through customs? Wood? In a way, I feel like this series of photographs is Talia’s last little girl photographs, well, in a way. She is turning 13 this year.

Taken at a recent workshop in Bungendore…we found a real fog bow. Upon looking it up on the internet, we were all surprised that the “fog-bow” actually is the correct name for it. A rainbow that is colourless caused by fog! =) Who would have thought?

Really thrilled to be feature and to be on the Cover of Portrait Photography Magazine China this month.
