Today’s post is a reminder to myself mostly!
One thing that I really feel I have never lost is my sense of wander. And when I look at people who are out there living life to the fullest, I often think that they have so much ..’guts’. Bravery. Willingness. Determination. All those things.
A lot of which I wish I had.
However I think what I do have is wanderlust.
If you look it up on Urban Dictionary it says …what you’d expect, Wanderlust means a lust to travel.
“wanderlust (noun) ˈwän-dər-ˌləst – an irresistibly strong desire or an impulse to travel far away and explore different places.”
But honestly, for me its less about places more about people, experiences, feelings and even learning new things. I think my sense of adventure has never really left me and even that willingness to pick-up and keep exploring.
Or maybe even dream a little. Don’t get me wrong, it comes an goes – sometimes I am overwhelmed, and not feeling it at all.
Which is why I am writing this as a reminder.
20 years ago, I distinctly remember driving over the Sydney Harbour Bridge – as I did every single day on my way to work at a Child Care Center on the other side of the water. However on that particular day I was looking ahead to when I might have my dreams realized. I was in one of those moods where I felt like I’d never find the person of my dreams, never find peace, never find..well, anything . Maybe Never-Never Land.
And it occurred to me, half way across the bridge, that the point of dreams is that we for-fill them every single day, and then re-invent new ones. In fact, years prior to that day, I would never (there’s that word again) have thought I could have studied something and become a professional at anything – let alone be able to have the opportunity work as a child care worker.
If you had asked me 10 years ago if I would be photographing a beautiful girl, and a white pony, in gorgeous South Carolina, USA with wonderful friends (thank you Betty & Dawn) – sharing experiences with a bunch of talented photographers during a workshop that I was teaching? I might have thought it too far fetched. However, if I’d thought on it a little more I’m guessing I would have believed it to be a fantastic dream.
And it was. And is.
I understand that peoples dreams can mean different things. That dreams vary from person to person, country to country. However, the point is… everyone should dream, right? Even if its a dream to dream….
So to say that I’m a dreamer, is an understatement. For those of you who have been to our house for a Photographers Retreat or a shoot, you will have noticed that even as you pee (yes, I really said that), there is a sign in the toilet that says :
“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one” – John Lennon of course.
Everyone needs a good reminder of that..even at those time. And it doesn’t matter, if your a painter, builder or photographer. Everyone needs to dream!
Goal : Today my dream is to be brave enough to experiment more with my work in a way that I haven’t yet. And processing (such as this photograph).
BTW Ive been asked for some settings heres this one : 1/160 sec; f/2.8; ISO 640 TS-E45mm f/2.8 (Ill try to share that more, I get lazy).
